Fashion headlines in 2024 may have been overwhelmed by news of a luxury slowdown, but besides its financial declines, 2024 was otherwise a year for the books.

It ended, after all, with a bang, thanks to the grand finale of creative director musical chairs: Matthieu Blazy to Chanel, Louise Trotter to Bottega Veneta, Julian Klausner in at Dries Van Noten, Michael Rider in at Celine, and John Galliano’s Maison Margiela exit from Dior. On runways throughout the year, designers didn’t fail to put on epic runway shows with celebrity-packed front rows. Nothing may have hit the decadent fabulosity of that 300-look Mugler show in the ’90s, but 2024 had cool moments in their own right.
