The Oscar winner voices a character in ‘The Wild Robot,’ which is nominated for Best Animated Feature
Lupita Nyong’o is bringing her signature elegance to the Oscars red carpet 2025.
On Sunday, March 2, the actress, 42, appeared at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre in an ethereal white gown by Chanel that was embellished with over 22,000 pearls.
Per a press release, the custom pleated ivory charmeuse dress features a resille bustier embroidered with silver crystal bugle beads and embellished with pearls and silver crystal braids, pearls straps, pearls cabochons, pearls tassels and an ivory satin belt. The gown, topped with a bow at the waist, is inspired by look 74 from the Chanel Haute Couture Spring-Summer 1991 show.
The gown required 660 hours of work and contains 22,410 embroidery elements.

Nyong’o stars in the animated film The Wild Robot, which is up for three nominations: Best Original Score, Best Sound and Best Animated Feature. The movie also stars Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Mark Hamill, Bill Nighy and Stephanie Hsu.
Ahead of the awards show, the Oscar winner shared a photo carousel on Instagram of her time promoting the film. “My photos 🤳🏿 from a wild and wonderful time sharing @TheWildRobot with the world. Can’t wait to celebrate this special film one last time on Sunday at the Academy Awards 🤖🫶🏿🐣,” she wrote in the caption.
Nyong’o, who took home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in 12 Years a Slave in 2014, recently opened up about her 2015 Oscars dress being stolen on her podcast, Mind Your Own.

In an Instagram post, the actress shared a video of herself in the pearl-embellished gown on the 2015 red carpet.
“Oscars Weekend Storytime: 10 years ago, my #Oscars dress was stolen! 🥵🤦🏿♀️😭🫣😥🤬🫨🥴😵 ,” she wrote in the caption. “It was an ordeal full of outrageous, movie-worthy twists and turns. I decided to tell the story of what went down for the first time on the episode of my podcast, Mind Your Own, called, ‘Chain of Possession.’ Link in bio to hear how the case was closed! 🗂️🙏🏿”
Per ABC, the actress’ Calvin Klein Collection gown, which was worth $150,000, was found in a bathroom two days after it was stolen from her hotel room in West Hollywood.
