Why hasn’t Tayme Thapthimthong’s Gaitok performed at The White Lotus this season?

In a clip shared on Instagram on Tuesday, April 1, Thapthimthong and his White Lotus season 3 costar Lalisa Manobal (BLACKPINK’s Lisa) rap to Blackstreet’s “No Diggity” together.

Thapthimthong sings the first verse before Lisa, 28, asks him, “Where’s the hook? I need the hook!” Both then rap along to the chorus. “I like the way you work it/No diggity, I got to bag it up,” they sing, all smiles. The clip has gone viral since.

Fans were blown away by the actor’s seemingly unknown talent and had thoughts. “wait he ate lisa up with those vocals 😭,” one fan wrote. “Gaitok has rizz ❤️,” a second said of his vocal range. “Why is Gaitok not performing at the White Lotus bar? Move over, Fabian,” a third demanded.

Some were wondering why he didn’t sing during his date with Lisa’s Mook on The White Lotus. “If Gaitok had busted this out on his date with Mook, that date probably would have gone a whole lot better 🥵,” someone said. “Where was this energy on the date 😂,” another person asked.

Others cracked jokes about his character Gaitok’s poor job as a security guard for the White Lotus. ‘bro is good at everything except his job 😭,” one person wrote. “Nailed it! He has a career away from security after all 😂,” a second chimed in. “He’s out here singing while people are getting robbed?” a someone else joked.

“Gaitok is doing everything but guarding that resort entrance gate,” another said.

Thapthimthong spoke to PEOPLE in March about how he became an actor and landing his first major on-screen role in the dark comedy series.

“It’s one of those careers where you kind of feel like, ‘Oh my God, how many people really get to do that?’” he said of acting. “It’s one of those dreams that’s like, ‘Maybe I need a secondary dream.’ I’ve always also liked the military, so that’s what I did before acting in The White Lotus.”

While attending college at Kingston University in England, he trained with the Royal Marines and received one-on-one training with a Special Air Service operator. He then became a Lieutenant in the Thai Army for three years, worked in the private sector for two years, and served as a bodyguard before The White Lotus.

He also spoke about his character’s flaws and the questionable decisions Gaitok makes, especially after working as a bodyguard in real life.

“[There are] so many things that, oh my God, Gaitok, come on!” he said. “When we get trained in the army, one of the first things [we learn is] that you never just leave your weapon like that on the table wide open. It is just not something you do.”

“I think he’s just so struck by Mook the whole time that anytime she comes around, he’s just like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to drop everything else now and then just concentrate on her,’” Thapthimthong added.

The White Lotus season 3 finale airs on Sunday, April 6 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max.
