Colt Ford Announces Death of His Father One Year After His Own Near-Fatal Heart Attack

“He passed away right there in his house that he loved with my momma on one hand, married 62 years, and my son Reynolds on the other hand,” the country star said in a video

Colt Ford is mourning a death in the family.

The “Slow Ride” singer announced the death of his father on Instagram on Wednesday, April 9. The news comes a year after Ford, 54, suffered a near-fatal heart attack that placed him in a medically induced coma.

“This video was hard to make,” Ford began. “It’s a blessing to have my dad for 89 — he was 89 years old. He got to see me play in Athens with Brantley [Gilbert] and that made him so happy. I’m so grateful for all the prayers, but last night he went home to be with the Lord, and I’m at peace with it.”

“Thank y’all for all your prayers and wishes. He passed away right there in his house that he loved with my momma on one hand, married 62 years, and my son Reynolds on the other hand, his grandson that he thought hung the moon. And he just eased off.”

“God bless y’all,” Ford signed off the emotional video.

“Was a Blessing to have my Daddy for 89 years. Last night he went Home to be with the Lord. Thank Y’all for all the Prayers. Love Y’all,” he captioned the clip. On April 4, Ford asked for prayers for his father while he was in the hospital.

“FaceTiming with My Hero My Dad,” he captioned a screenshot of their FaceTime call shared on Instagram. “Y’all say some prayers for My Dad not doing too well. Thank yall for all the one’s for me if ya don’t mind give em to Him. I Love Ya Coach keep Fighting.”

Ford’s father’s death came a year after the country singer suffered a near-fatal heart attack following a concert in Arizona on April 4, 2024. “I didn’t even remember coming out here to do a show in Phoenix, and apparently we played this great, sold-out show and it was incredible,” Ford told the Big D & Bubba radio show hosts three weeks after the incident.

“I walked back to the bus, texted my fiancée, ‘Hi baby,’ and fell over dead.” He died twice and was put on an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine for a week. As a result of the heart attack, Ford needed to get three stents put in and have his gallbladder drained after it “crapped out.”

“I got a long way to go, but I promise you this ol’ country boy will get back,” he reassured fans in an Instagram video posted in late April. “It probably won’t be this year, and I hate I gotta miss all these shows, but I’m coming back.”

In early 2025, Ford shared that he was planning to get back on the road. “The devil couldn’t keep me down, baby,” he told fans in an Instagram video.

He spoke to PEOPLE in February about the experience, which has made him change his diet and opt for a healthier lifestyle. “It was life-changing,” he said at the time. “My doctor said, ‘I have no idea how you survived.’ “

“God has more for me to do,” Ford added. “For some reason he saw fit to give me another chance, so I intend to do something positive with it.”
