Malaysia, voted Asia’s most loved country this year, is set to launch 10 new international routes connecting five key destinations within the country to other popular tourism hubs, aiming to boost year-end tourist arrivals.

The new routes will bring the total number of weekly flights to Malaysia to 3,100, enhancing the country’s competitiveness in the global tourism industry and making it a top choice for international travelers, Malaysia’s Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said as quoted by The Star.

A new route connecting Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur was launched on Nov. 28.

This will be followed by Indigo Airlines’ inaugural flights to Malaysia, which will include daily routes between Bengaluru and Kuala Lumpur, as well as Langkawi, and daily flights from Chennai to Penang, according to Malay Mail.

Other new routes include Batik Air’s daily flights between Bangkok and Johor Baru, AirAsia’s three weekly flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia Airlines’ five weekly flights from Kolkata to Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai Airlines’ three weekly flights from Yuncheng to Kuala Lumpur, and Jiangxi Airlines’ twice-weekly flights from Nanchang to Kuala Lumpur.

On Dec. 10, Jeju Air will introduce a charter flight route offering twice-weekly flights between Muan, South Korea, and Kota Kinabalu.

As of October, international tourist arrivals to Malaysia have exceeded 20.5 million, closer to this year’s 26-million target.
