Sia featured Chaka Khan — who happens to be her goddaughter — on her 2024 album ‘Reasonable Woman’
Chaka Khan and Sia have music in the works. Well, kind of.
In an article from The Guardian published on Thursday, April 3, the “I’m Every Woman” answered questions from fans about her career, famous interactions along with upcoming projects.
When complimented on her 2019 song “Like Sugar,” Khan, 72, was asked if she had any plan to release music soon. “I’m working on it right now! Sia and I are working on an amazing project, and I hope the first single will come out some time this summer,” she said.
Khan noted that she’s “always working on music.” “And Sia is amazing – she’s my goddaughter!”
“This is something we’ve been working on for a year now, and it’s killing us, because we keep coming up with more great music to do!” she added. “We can’t finish, because we’ve got so much to give. It’s beautiful.”
Khan and Sia, 49, previously collaborated on Sia’s song “Immortal Queen” for her 2024 album Reasonable Woman.
The duo also shared the stage during the 2023 Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony when Khan was honored. They sang “Sweet Thing” and “I’m Every Woman” together at the Barclays Center.
Elsewhere in the article, Khan also spoke about performing with the late legend, Prince. “It was like working with myself, more than anyone else I’ve worked with,” she revealed. “Sia’s bringing up a close third, behind Prince and Miles Davis. Quincy Jones, too: he oozed inspiration and shared it.”
“Prince just grabbed ideas out of the air and left you wondering: ‘Where did you get that?’ He was a really deep and beautiful thinker,” Khan added, also mentioning that a collaboration album between them would be released “soon.”
In May, Khan, along with Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight and Stephanie Mills embark on their The Queens Tour, making stops throughout North America. The musicians — who have a combined 18 Grammy Awards — will stop in Baltimore, New York, Nashville, Chicago, Los Angeles and other cities.
A second leg of the tour, to be announced, will take place in September and October.
