SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Yonhap) — With electrifying beats filling the air, Dua Lipa strode onto the stage at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome on Wednesday, exuding the poise of a runway model. Her piercing gaze and subtle smile captivated the crowd of 20,000 even before she began to sing.
The audience erupted in cheers as Lipa launched into her set, responding fervently to every gesture. When she bent back to unleash her powerful high notes, waves of gasps and applause filled the venue.
Dua Lipa, who debuted with the single New Love in 2015 and rose to stardom with her self-titled album in 2017, has earned three Grammy Awards and seven BRIT Awards. This was her first visit to Korea in six and a half years, following her 2018 tour.
Opening with Training Season, Lipa delivered hit after global hit, including One Kiss and Break My Heart. From soaring vocals on Be the One, accompanied by a live band, to seamless choreography during Illusion, her performance showcased both technical prowess and artistic flair.
The show’s visual spectacle matched its musical brilliance. Dressed in outfits that highlighted her long limbs, Lipa executed high kicks and flowing gestures that mesmerized the audience. The stage transformed into a giant disco ball for Levitating, with a glowing moon and radiant lights complementing her synchronized dance with backup performers.
The energy in the arena crescendoed with each song. During Cold Heart, her duet with Elton John, fans waved their phone lights, creating a sea of stars. Lipa responded with a playful blown kiss, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Closing with a medley of her biggest hits, including Physical, Dance The Night, and Houdini, Lipa delivered a 21-song set that kept the audience enthralled until the final moments.
Expressing her gratitude, Lipa said, “So much has happened, but thank you for waiting for this show. It wouldn’t have been possible without you. I’m grateful for the energy you brought tonight.”
The concert drew heightened attention due to political events in Korea. Following the temporary declaration of martial law by President Yoon Suk-yeol the previous night, there had been concerns about potential cancellations. However, with the measure rescinded within six hours, the event proceeded without major disruptions.
Fans like Oh Chan-woo (30), who traveled from Mokpo, expressed relief: “I had booked tickets, a train, and accommodations long ago. I worried I’d have to cancel everything. Hearing Dua Lipa live was a dream, and I’m so glad the show went on.”
Seo Young-kyung, a 21-year-old fan accompanied by a university senior, shared, “When martial law was announced, I thought the concert might be canceled. But when things settled, I was excited to see her bold outfits and stunning performances.”
Dua Lipa will perform again at the same venue on December 5.
