Golfer Jose Luis Ballester Pees in Creek on Hallowed Masters Course in Front of Crowd: ‘I’d Do It Again’

Ballester said he “completely forgot” about the restrooms to the left of the tee box

Nature was calling Jose Luis Ballester during the 2025 Masters golf tournament — and he answered.

On day one of his first-ever Masters appearance, 21-year-old Ballester, playing alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, made himself memorable when he relieved himself in the creek at the 13th hole of the Augusta National Golf Club on April 10.

“I’m like, I really need to pee,” Ballester recalled to reporters after the match, as seen in video shared on X. “I completely forgot that we had those restrooms to the left of the tee box.”

It was when Justin Thomas “had an issue on the green” during the match that Ballester thought he had an opportunity to use the bathroom.

“I’m like, I’m just going to sneak here in the river and probably people would not see me that much,” he recalled.

“They saw me. They saw me,” Ballester later told reporters. “And then they clapped for me. Probably one of the claps that I really got today, real loud, so that was kind of funny.’’

Ballester isn’t going to lose any sleep over the blunder, though. When asked if he was “concerned” there would be any “blowback” to urinating on the green, Ballester said, “It was not embarrassing at all for me. If I had to do it again, I would do it again.”

He finished with a 4-over-par 76 in the round.

After the match, Ballester said he was “proud of” himself for not letting the pressure “hit me that much” in his first Masters. “I remember when I played first my first major two years ago at The Open, I was shaking on the first tee. Today I felt really comfortable.”
