Madonna’s jacket sure looks familiar!
On Saturday, March 29, the Queen of Pop, 66, wore the jacket from her 1985 movie Desperately Seeking Susan at a Mother, Daughter, Holy Spirit fashion show in New York City. The event, called “Mother,” was the first of a three-part fundraiser to benefit the Trans Justice Funding Project.
The singer revealed in an Instagram post on March 31 that she wore the jacket to celebrate the movie’s 40th anniversary.
The comedy drama, directed by Susan Seidelman, took place in New York City and followed two women as they connect through a newspaper.
The movie marked Madonna’s first major screen role and also starred Rosanna Arquette, Aidan Quinn, John Turturro, Giancarlo Esposito and Laurie Metcalf.
Sharing snaps of her ensemble in the social media post, Madonna wrote, “Happy Trans Visibility Day!! And Happy 40th anniversary of my first film- Desperately Seeking Susan!!”
She continued, “We celebrated this weekend by attending a fashion show called, MOTHER -DAUGHTER-HOLY SPIRIT!! All money raised will go to the Trans Justice Funding Project! Thank you, to All for showing up.”
Madonna wore a black blazer with a white buttoned shirt and black tie to the event. The singer paired the simple ensemble with knee-length shorts, black tights and black and white heels. She accessorized with a gold and black cross necklace and black gloves.
On top of the classic attire, Madonna rocked a piece of movie history.
In her carousel of images, the “Vogue” singer included a snap of her wearing the infamous, shimmery jacket from her feature film debut.
One photo shows her standing with her hands in her pockets while wearing a pair of brown sunglasses as she modeled the jacket. The next is of the back of the outerwear decorated with a pale yellow pyramid and red designs.
A press release from the fundraising project, organized by Bobbi Salvör Menuez and John Mollett, states that the fashion show “hearkens back to the intimate, couture, salon-style shows from the turn of the century.” The runway saw models wearing pieces from various designers, including Conner Ives, Magliano, Vaquera, Willy Chavarria, Valentino and the Women’s History Museum.
A-listers Chloë Sevigny, Julia Fox, Lena Waithe, Pedro Pascal and more also supported the fundraiser by donating pieces from their own closets.
The jacket is not Madonna’s only recent blast from the past. Last month, the singer stripped down to sexy pink lingerie in an Instagram clip to promote the upcoming rerelease of her 1994 album Bedtime Stories.
The “Material Girl” singer paired the lingerie with a pair of thigh-high black stockings and some dazzling chunky chains around her neck as she filmed herself rolling around the floor.
The hitmaker added some extra height with a pair of patent-leather black stilettos. She completed the sizzling get-up with a black jacket and a pair of fishnet-style black gloves.
