Rosamund Pike Worried Her Nipple Covers Were ‘Pulling Off’ Pierce Brosnan’s Chest Hair While Filming James Bond Sex Scene

“I was so mortified,” Pike recalled of the awkward moment with Brosnan while filming ‘Die Another Day’

Rosamund Pike is remembering an awkward Bond girl incident.

While a guest on David Tennant’s podcast David Tennant Does a Podcast with, the 46-year-old actress detailed an awkward moment that occurred while filming a love scene with Pierce Brosnan for the 2002 James Bond pic Die Another Day.

Pike, who made her big-screen debut as Bond girl and double agent Miranda Frost, said while filming a steamy scene on a swan sculpture bed “covered in furs” with Brosnan, 70, “I discovered things like nipple covers, and all the taping.”

The Gone Girl actress said what came next was a bit of a sticky situation.

“We have this clinch, and then we separate, and I look at this body tape and the nipple covers and they’re covered in hair. And I think, ‘Oh my God, I’m waxing Pierce’s chest,’ ” she told Tennant.

“I was so mortified,” Pike continued. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s so brave, and I’m pulling off his chest hair with every embrace.’ And of course, it took a couple of takes to realize it was not him. It was the fake fur of the rugs adorning the swan bed. I literally thought I was waxing the poor man’s chest.”

Pike added though that while there was a sizable age gap between them during production — Brosnan was 49 and Pike was 23 when the film debuted — she described the Irish actor as “an absolute gent.”

Pike also shared on the podcast she had never watched a Bond film before her audition, which went a little awry.

“I took my mother’s concert dress to the audition,” Pike said, noting that in her opinion, that was an appropriate, sophisticated look for a Bond girl.

At the audition, Pike recalled being told, “That is a very, very lovely dress but Bond girls wear things more like this” before presenting “a shimmering sheath” to Pike.

The Wheel of Time star previously touched on her awkward audition process in a 2018 interview with Amazon’s Audible Sessions, detailing how she’d been asked to “drop my dress and appear in my underwear.”

“I just thought if they’re gonna see me in my underwear, they better give me the job. So, I thought, ‘There’s no way I’m going to take off a dress in the audition for this tape to be sent around Los Angeles and to be judged on that,’ ” Pike said.

Pike’s next movie, Now You See Me Now You Don’t, opens on Nov. 14. She also stars in Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time, which is now in its third season.
